We have seen it everywhere on the streets, runways and most of our childhood closets. Every respectable Scotssman has his fair share and now its our turn to rethink our old trusted friend, plaid.

The recent trend that has been seen on many civilians is far removed from the barely there school uniforms that we so reluctantly wore. The new breed of plaids and tartans have taken on a whole different life. With bright purples, mixed with yellows, blues and pinks to bright reds slashed through with decisive strokes of crisp winter orange and deep midnight black. The new plaid is definitely far from the mandatory school issue.

Wear it as a coat or a full dress. Accent your look with key pieces of this new trend, such as a clutch bag, a pair of dainty heels or a scarf. Mix and match plaid with other prints. When mixing plaid with animal print, try to keep the prints that you are matching as classic as possible and avoid accessorizing with too many of your favorite trinkets , the key to mixing different prints is to ensure that the focus stays on those prints and not the subtitles of your outfit. When mixing less classical varieties of plaid such as I was talking about earlier, try too keep both prints in the same colour family,if you are aiming for a sleek and sophisticated look. Most of all have fun with this trend, its sure to come around again, but this has been my favorite reincarnation of this classic in a while.

I for one am sure to add a little Korean-Scott flavour to my wardrode this winter! Enjoy!
