My boyfriend and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary at the beginning of August. For our anniversary he took me for a safari at Aquila Game Reserve, which is about 2 hours drive from Cape Town. It has always been a dream of mine,to go on a safari, and see the Big Five in the wild, so needless to say this experience was one of the highlights in my life so far! When we left home, I had no idea where we were going! I only got a message saying to wear comfortable clothes, but not too comfortable. What was a girl to make of that?
Aquila game reserve is situated in the Karoo and they host a variety of wildlife, but probably the most famous would be the big five, who are the following Rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard. We saw all of them ! The best part of the day was undoubtedly when we saw Rhino. It was both exhilirating and emotional for me to see this amazing animal up close, when I know that even as far down in the Karoo at Aquila these gorgeous creatures have been poached. You will also see that in my pics the big cats, leopard, cheetah and lion are in cages, these animals are in Aquila’s rehabilitation center and are animals who have been saved from caged hunting and other dangerous and irresponsible owners.
I felt so blessed and loved on this day and mostly privileged to be able to have had this experience, thanks to my lovely boyfriend.
