In our house, it’s no secret , we love burgers! In all their different shapes flavours and sizes! We regularly frequent some of Cape Towns, favourite burger spots and always try something something new! So obviously we are beyond excited about The Burger Festival coming to Cape Town! The Americans might have invented the hamburger, but we Capetonians have perfected it! In the build-up to the festival I will be bringing you some of our favourite homemade burger recipes and reviews from some of the vendors who will be peddling their produce at the festival!
So to start things of is our ”The District Burger”:
Just like our new neighbourhood, Zonnebloem, is a melting pot of cultures and demographics, this burger is made up of a whole lot of everything!
- Ground beef
- 1 onion
- Basil Pesto
- Crushed garlic
- Spices to taste
- 1 Egg
Mini Jalapeno Popper:
- Self raising Four
- Brown Onion Soup Powder
Oil to fry and normal hamburger toppings.
Patty: Cut the bacon, onion and two peppadews into small pieces and add to ground beef in a bowl. Add garlic, spices and a teaspoon of basil pesto to the ground beef.Add one egg and some flour to bind the meat . Mix well, until all the ingredients are combined. Take a plate and dust lightly with flour. Make patties to the size you like. After making patties let them rest in the fridge for about an hour.
Once the hour is over, fry the patties in some olive oil until done.
Mini Jalapeno Poppers:
For the batter I used two tablespoons of self raising flour and a table spoon of brown onion soup powder. Mix the dry ingredients with beer to make a thick but fluid batter. I used sliced jalapeno’s to make this. Cover slices in flour and dip the jalapeno pieces in the batter and fry in a hot oil. Once done , put on some blotting paper to drain excess oil.
All that is now left is to assemble the burger. After cutting the panini , put some basil pesto on the bread. Then add some lettuce. At the bottom put some white cheddar cheese. Place the patty on top and garnish with some Fairview White Rock with glazed figs, semi soft cheese and your jalapeno popper . Enjoy with a fine brew of your choice!
I will be sharing different kinds of burgers and even a veggie burger!
